You and your skin have undoubtedly seen better days, unless you were born yesterday.

Breakouts
It's not just the copious amounts of pasta, wine, and baked goods we tend to consume when we're upset (all of which, sorry, can cause pore-clogging inflammation in your system), but also a very real systemic effect: "When your cortisol levels spike, your oil glands produce more oil. "Acne-causing bacteria in your skin are fed by this oil, which leads to acne."
Though you can't change the way your body works in a magical way, a simple meditation or fitness session can assist lower cortisol levels. If you know you'll be under a lot of stress in the coming days, try loading up your skin care routine with soothing actives like a sulfur-based face mask or switching to a salicylic acid-based cleanser to keep your pores free while your sebum production ramps up.
Face picking
The sudden want to lash out at your face after (or, ahem, during) a weeping fit? That isn't entirely your fault. "There's a strong brain-body link, and I believe picking is an expression of worry."
It gives your brain a false sense of control over whatever is stressing you out, but the compulsion is actually caused by anxiety." Stress can also increase nerve signaling that causes itching in your skin, so even low-grade but chronic stress can make you more prone to pressing your face against a mirror and looking for bumps.
